During the first half of this year, businesses announced plans to add more than 2,100 employees in Hamilton County—surpassing the job-creation total for all of 2015.

Nine companies unveiled expansion or relocation projects during the second quarter, saying they expect to invest more than $14 million and create about 450 jobs in the coming years. That comes on the heels of a blockbuster first quarter for businesses in the county just north of Indianapolis.

Second-quarter highlights include the following:

  • Five projects are planned for Carmel, creating a total of 192 jobs and generating $1.4 million in capital investment.
  • Two construction projects in the works in Noblesville are expected to retain or create a total of 55 jobs and require total investments of $6.6 million.
  • One project is planned in each Fishers and Westfield; together, they total 207 jobs and $5 million in capital expenditures.

The largest single project is Metro Plastic Technologies’ plan to spend $6 million to build and equip a 72,000-square-foot office and manufacturing facility in Noblesville. At least 50 employees will be retained in the move. Under the terms of an incentives deal with the company, the city will take care of some site infrastructure, reimburse up to $350,000 in development costs and waive more than $23,000 in planning fees.

Fishers, meanwhile, is poised to get 175 new jobs as Ardagh Group's glass-packaging division moves its headquarters from Muncie to the growing city. Ardagh expects to spend $2 million to establish operations in Fishers. The city is offering a 10-year personal property tax abatement that could save the company a total of $90,000.

Last year, Hamilton County employers said they planned to create a total of 2,058 jobs while investing a whopping $188.7 million in capital projects. Already this year, businesses have announced 2,170 new jobs and investments of $122.1 million.
