Duke Energy provides electricity to most of Hamilton County while Vectren Corp. is the largest supplier of natural gas.

Duke is the largest electric power holding company in the country. It has 7.2 million electric customers including 119,204 in Hamilton County.

The company, which is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., generates 57,500 megawatts of electricity to serve customers spread across 104,000 square miles in the Midwest, the Carolinas and Florida. It is a Fortune 250 company traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

Vectren, which has about 70,000 customers in Hamilton County, is an energy holding company based in Evansville, Ind. Its wholly owned subsidiary, Vectren Utility Holdings Inc., serves as the intermediate holding company for three operating utilities – Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - North, Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - South and Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio – that together serve 995,000 natural gas customers and 142,000 electric customers.
